Barco announced October 29 that its HDR cinema format will reach Belgium for the first time at Kinepolis Kortrijk, near the technology company's headquarters.

Construction is underway, with the auditorium scheduled to open November 18. The upgraded screen will combine HDR by Barco projection, immersive audio and premium seating, according to the announcement.

The format already operates in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, India, Italy and the Netherlands. Barco said the Belgian plan follows three recently added German locations.

HDR by Barco was introduced to audiences in autumn 2024 and began its commercial rollout in early 2025. It uses the company's Lightsteering projection technology to direct light within the image.

Barco said films shown in the format use dedicated versions graded and approved by their creative teams. The Belgian opening remains a planned event, rather than a completed launch.

Kinepolis and Barco have a longstanding digital-cinema relationship, including Kinepolis's adoption of Barco laser projection for its Laser ULTRA offering in 2014.
