Launch Catch-Up — Strategy Announced October 26, 2026

The Environmental Protection Agency announced an agency-wide PFAS technology strategy October 26, outlining research, pilot projects and technical assistance intended to help communities assess cleanup options.

Administrator Lee Zeldin introduced the effort in Commerce City, Colorado. EPA calls the program PFAS TECH, short for Technology, Evaluation, Coordination and Harmonization.

The agency said it would work with governments, universities, businesses and water systems to test treatment and destruction methods, including foam fractionation and supercritical water oxidation. Planned pilot settings include Superfund sites, military facilities, wastewater plants and drinking-water systems.

EPA also plans guidance and a tool called the Break the Bond Navigator to share technology information and help water systems find assistance. It intends to provide PFAS destruction research funding through its STAR and Small Business Innovation Research programs.

The announcement does not specify funding amounts or grant-opening dates. It describes planned work and ongoing pilot activity rather than demonstrating that the proposed technologies have achieved cleanup outcomes everywhere they might be used.
