The Entertainment Software Rating Board named Orit Michiel its next president on October 28, with the appointment taking effect November 2.

Michiel will succeed Patricia Vance, who is retiring after more than 20 years as president, according to the announcement distributed by the Entertainment Software Association.

Her responsibilities will include the organization’s video-game and app ratings, industry advertising and marketing guidelines, and its Privacy Certified program. She will also join the board of the International Age Rating Coalition, which supplies ratings for digitally delivered games and apps.

At Netflix, Michiel led the global Content Policy team and developed a classification and maturity-rating system. Before that, she spent 13 years at the Motion Picture Association, including service as vice president of legal affairs and chair of its Classification and Rating Appeals Board.

ESRB is a nonprofit, self-regulatory organization providing age and content information for families. The October 28 announcement concerns its leadership transition; it does not announce new rating categories or changes to individual games’ classifications.
