Launch Catch-Up — Exhibition Opened October 25, 2026

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, has opened an exhibition of more than 90 works from philanthropist Charles Butt’s collection, presenting selections publicly for the first time, according to the museum.

American Modernism from the Charles Butt Collection began October 25 and runs through January 18, 2027, in the Beck Building. The exhibition is organized by the Amon Carter Museum of American Art.

The museum’s presentation follows American art from the late 19th century into the 1980s through five thematic sections. Artists represented include Georgia O’Keeffe, Jacob Lawrence, Jackson Pollock, Joan Mitchell and Andrew Wyeth, alongside Texas artists Mary Bonner and Everett Gee Jackson.

The sections examine personal connections, maritime imagery, changing approaches to landscape, industrial-era scenes and later artistic directions. The museum links the maritime theme to Butt’s childhood near the Gulf of Mexico in Corpus Christi.

This report covers the exhibition’s October 25 opening and the museum’s published program. It is not an account of an on-site visit or an independent critical review of the artworks.
