Launch Catch-Up — Plans Announced October 23, 2026

Jerry Garcia’s family and project partners announced plans for a permanent music and arts center in the San Francisco Bay Area, combining an archive with exhibition and performance spaces.

The October 23 statement names archival platform Starchive and project coordinator Christopher McCutcheon as partners in the Jerry Garcia Music Arts Center. It does not identify a specific property or opening date.

The proposed institution would include a public research library, physical archives and digital preservation facilities. Organizers also envision galleries for Garcia’s artwork and instruments, a performance center, a screening room and an artist-in-residence program.

Exhibitions would explore the musical traditions that shaped the Grateful Dead co-founder’s work and innovations in live concert sound. Environmental displays would address his conservation interests.

The plans follow an August announcement of a separate immersive experience. The new statement concerns a proposed permanent archival institution, rather than confirmation that a building is secured or construction is complete. Organizers said architectural and programming details would follow.
