Launch Catch-Up — Program Announced October 26, 2026

Museum of the Moving Image will present seven New York-set films selected by director James Gray from November 7 through November 22, the Astoria museum announced October 26.

James Gray’s New York includes a November 12 preview of Paper Tiger, with Gray attending, and a November 8 screening of his earlier film The Immigrant.

Gray also selected John Schlesinger’s Midnight Cowboy, Abraham Polonsky’s Force of Evil, Martin Scorsese’s Raging Bull, William Friedkin’s The French Connection and Anthony Mann’s Side Street.

The series connects Gray’s work with films that influenced his depictions of the city. Gray grew up in Queens and previously interned at the museum, according to the release.

Screenings are scheduled in the museum’s Redstone and Bartos theaters. The announced preview precedes Paper Tiger’s planned November 13 limited theatrical release.

The dates concern an upcoming screening program; this account summarizes the museum’s announcement and does not review the films or claim attendance.
