Tennessee scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns to turn a close rivalry game into a 34–6 victory over Kentucky on Saturday, November 7, at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville.

The Volunteers led 13–6 entering the final quarter before adding 21 unanswered points. Both teams finished the night with 7–2 records, according to Tennessee’s official game center.

DeSean Bishop led Tennessee with 109 rushing yards. The Volunteers ran for 240 yards as a team and finished with 389 yards of total offense, compared with Kentucky’s 361. Kentucky recorded more first downs, 20 to 14, and held the ball for 35 minutes, 17 seconds, but did not score after halftime.

A late-third-quarter fumble by Kentucky quarterback Kenny Minchey gave Tennessee possession in Wildcats territory. The Volunteers converted that opportunity into a touchdown early in the fourth quarter, with Mike Matthews taking a pass from Faizon Brandon 24 yards for the score.

Another Kentucky possession ended with a fourth-down sack. Tennessee followed with a short scoring run by Bishop, who added another touchdown late in the game. He finished with two rushing touchdowns.

Tennessee opened the scoring on Daune Morris’s 66-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Kentucky’s points came on two second-quarter field goals, leaving the Volunteers ahead 10–6 at halftime. Tennessee added a third-quarter field goal before its decisive final-period surge.

Minchey threw for 224 yards. Willie Rodriguez led Kentucky’s receiving yardage with 81. George MacIntyre passed for 125 yards for Tennessee.

The final result ended Kentucky’s six-game winning streak. The Wildcats remained ahead of Tennessee in SEC wins, at 5–2 in conference play compared with the Volunteers’ 4–2.
