The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory early Sunday, November 8, for southeastern Val Verde County, including Del Rio, warning of minor flooding and water over roadways.

The Austin/San Antonio office issued the bulletin at 4:14 a.m. Central Standard Time. The advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. CST Sunday.

Doppler radar indicated heavy rain from thunderstorms, with up to an inch already fallen in the advisory area. Another 1–2 inches is expected, according to the bulletin.

The agency said minor flooding was ongoing or expected to begin shortly. The main impacts identified in its notice are flooding in low-lying areas, places with poor drainage and roadways affected by runoff.

Locations listed include Del Rio, Lake View, Val Verde Park, Laughlin Air Force Base, Cienegas Terrace, Long Point, Black Brush Point and Diablo East. The advisory also names the Highway 277 South Boat Ramp, 277 North Campground, Lake Ridge Ranch, San Pedro Canyon and Escondido Estates.

Those named locations identify the area at risk. They do not establish that every road, campground or neighborhood is flooded, or that the rainfall total is uniform across the county.

The weather service advises motorists to turn around when encountering flooded roads. It also urges particular caution before daylight, when water over a road and other flood hazards can be harder to recognize.

The advisory describes the conditions and rainfall expected within its southeastern Val Verde coverage area. It does not announce a countywide road closure or extend its forecast to the whole of Val Verde County.
