Update — November 6, 2026, 5:39 p.m. Eastern Standard Time: The National Weather Service in Jackson expanded the overnight frost advisory to Wayne County, Kentucky. The new county coverage runs from midnight to 9 a.m. EST Saturday, November 7, with temperatures of 32 to 37 degrees forecast by dawn. The bulletin warns that frost could harm unprotected sensitive vegetation. This is an expansion of the same overnight regional frost episode described below; nearby advisories retain their separately stated coverage and hours.

Earlier Reporting — November 6:

The National Weather Service expanded an overnight frost advisory to five West Virginia counties Friday afternoon, forecasting temperatures low enough for frost to threaten sensitive outdoor plants.

The Charleston, West Virginia, office’s November 6 bulletin added Clay, Boone, Kanawha, Lincoln and Putnam counties. Temperatures as low as 35 degrees Fahrenheit are forecast in that part of the advisory area.

The advisory runs from midnight Friday night through 9 a.m. Eastern Standard Time Saturday, November 7. The notice was issued at 3:48 p.m. Eastern Friday; it describes expected overnight conditions rather than frost already observed across the counties.

A companion notice continued the same overnight advisory for Boyd, Carter, Greenup and Lawrence counties in Kentucky; Lawrence County, Ohio; and Cabell and Wayne counties in West Virginia. In those areas, forecasters expect temperatures as low as 33 degrees.

The two bulletins therefore describe different minimum-temperature forecasts within a shared advisory period. Neither forecast means every location in the listed counties will reach the stated minimum.

The weather service said frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation and that uncovered sensitive plants could be killed. Its public instructions call for protecting tender plants from the cold.

Friday’s expansion applies to the five newly listed West Virginia counties. The neighboring Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia coverage was continued, rather than announced as a new advisory for every location.
