Emerson reported higher fourth-quarter and full-year sales Wednesday and issued its initial outlook for fiscal 2027, citing continued demand for industrial automation products and software.
The St. Louis-based company recorded fourth-quarter net sales of $5.20 billion, up 7% from a year earlier. Adjusted earnings were $1.86 per share, a 15% increase, while free cash flow rose 9% to $916 million.
For the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, net sales reached $18.98 billion, up 5%. Adjusted earnings increased 10% to $6.59 per share, and free cash flow totaled $3.54 billion, also up 9%.
Emerson said underlying orders increased 14% in the fourth quarter and 9% for the full year. Order growth is an important forward-looking measure for industrial companies because it can signal future revenue, although customer timing and cancellations can affect how quickly orders convert into sales.
The company also increased its quarterly cash dividend by 7% to 59.5 cents per share. Dividend payments remain subject to board approval and the terms announced by the company.
Emerson supplies automation equipment, control systems and software used in energy, chemical, power, manufacturing and other industrial markets. Its results provide a window into business investment and factory activity, though a single company’s orders do not establish a broad economic trend.
The company’s initial 2027 outlook includes expected continued growth, but investors should distinguish management forecasts from reported results. Emerson said its projections depend on factors including global demand, currency movements, supply conditions and execution.
