Moderna raised its full-year revenue-growth outlook on November 6 after reporting a third-quarter profit, according to the biotechnology company’s financial release.
The Cambridge, Massachusetts-based company now expects revenue to rise 15% to 25% in 2026, compared with its previous forecast of growth of up to 10%.
For the three months ended September 30, revenue increased 29% to $1.313 billion. Moderna attributed the increase mainly to higher international COVID-19 vaccine sales, including deliveries under long-term government partnerships. U.S. revenue was $780 million, while international markets generated $533 million.
The company reported net income of $162 million, or $0.38 per diluted share, compared with a $200 million loss, or $0.51 per share, a year earlier.
Research and development spending fell 27% to $583 million. Moderna said lower clinical-development costs following the completion and wind-down of certain late-stage infectious-disease studies, together with cost efficiencies, contributed to the decline. Selling, general and administrative expenses increased 5% to $282 million.
Cost of sales rose 54% to $318 million, reflecting higher sales volumes and other manufacturing-related expenses, according to the company.
Moderna also lowered its expected full-year research and development expenses to approximately $2.7 billion from approximately $2.9 billion.
Cash, cash equivalents and investments totaled $8.0 billion at September 30, up from $6.9 billion at the end of June. The company said that increase chiefly reflected approximately $2.6 billion in net proceeds from convertible notes and related transactions, partially offset by a settlement payment and cash used in operations.
Its forecast for year-end cash and investments rose to $8.1 billion to $8.3 billion, from $4.7 billion to $5.2 billion. Moderna said financing proceeds and improved operational execution contributed to the higher estimate. The cash forecast excludes further borrowing under its remaining credit-facility availability.
The revenue and expense outlooks are company projections rather than completed results.
