Singapore Airlines unveiled a new generation of long-haul cabin seats Friday, November 6, saying it will invest more than S$2 billion, about US$1.6 billion, in the programme.

The redesign covers first class, business class, premium economy and economy. The airline plans to introduce the products progressively from the second half of 2027, rather than placing the entire fleet into service at once.

First-class centre suites can be combined into a double bed. The airline describes the bed as the largest in commercial aviation. Business-class passengers will receive sliding privacy doors and fully flat beds.

The rollout covers both Boeing 777-9 aircraft on order and existing Airbus A350-900 aircraft being refurbished. The 777-9s will carry all four new cabin products. Retrofitted A350-900s will receive new business-class seats, while the ultra-long-range A350 fleet will gain first class for the first time.

The investment includes a previously announced S$1.1 billion A350 refurbishment programme. Across the A350s and 777-9s, the broader project covers 72 aircraft.

Certification remains a condition of the rollout. The airline said its new seats are certified for the 777-9, but that aircraft itself and the seats’ use on the A350 still require certification. The A350 seat-certification delay has pushed back introduction by about six months.

Other parts of the refreshed travel experience include entertainment-system upgrades, new amenities, revised food and drink offerings, connectivity and airport-lounge improvements.
