Tesla plans to wind down Cybertruck production at its Texas factory around the middle of 2027 to make room for increased Cybercab output, Chief Executive Elon Musk said Friday, November 6.

Musk described the manufacturing change in a post on X. The announcement concerns production capacity at Gigafactory Texas; it did not specify whether Cybertruck manufacturing would transfer to another plant or stop altogether.

The distinction leaves the pickup’s longer-term future unresolved. A factory wind-down is a planned manufacturing change, rather than confirmation that existing vehicles will cease operating or that production has already ended.

Cybercab is central to Musk’s plans for a larger driverless-vehicle business. Cybertruck lead engineer Wes Morrill said technology developed for the pickup would carry forward into Cybercab.

The stainless-steel pickup began reaching customers in 2023, following its earlier unveiling as Tesla’s entry into the U.S. pickup market. It has faced repeated recalls and price changes since launch.

Tesla does not disclose Cybertruck deliveries separately in its regular quarterly totals. Its broader Other Models category recorded 8,295 deliveries in the third quarter, compared with 12,364 in the second quarter. Those figures must not be read as Cybertruck sales alone.

Friday’s statement sets out management’s intended timing and rationale for the Texas change. It leaves details of any alternative manufacturing location or final discontinuation unannounced.
