Tinder’s U.S. daily active users returned to year-over-year growth in October as parent company Match Group continued to overhaul the dating app’s recommendations and user experience.
Match Chief Financial Officer Steve Bailey told Reuters the improvement was driven largely by better recommendation algorithms. The company is using artificial intelligence to analyze unstructured information and identify potentially more compatible matches.
Bailey did not provide Tinder’s October U.S. user count or the growth rate. The milestone is therefore directional rather than a complete measurement of the app’s recovery.
Tinder’s global daily active users had already returned to annual growth in September for the first time in about three and a half years. For the third quarter as a whole, global daily users were still down 1% from a year earlier, but that was a substantial improvement from a 10% decline in the comparable period last year.
The dating-app industry has been trying to rebuild engagement among younger users who have become frustrated with repetitive swiping and disappointing matches. Match has introduced new product features and adjusted its recommendation systems while its Hinge brand has expanded in additional markets.
Match expects to spend about $10 million on AI tools in 2026. The company is slowing hiring to manage those added costs but is not planning layoffs, Bailey said.
For the fourth quarter, Match forecast revenue of $865 million to $875 million. The midpoint was close to the $871.4 million average estimate from analysts surveyed by LSEG.
The company owns Tinder, Hinge, Match, Azar, Pairs and several other dating brands. The U.S. user improvement offers evidence that Tinder’s turnaround is gaining traction, but the absence of monthly figures and the continued third-quarter global decline leave the scale and durability of that recovery uncertain.
