Tripadvisor announced that Chief Executive Matt Goldberg and Chief Financial Officer Michael Noonan will leave the company, triggering a sharp premarket decline in the travel platform’s shares.
Goldberg will remain president and CEO through Feb. 16, 2027, to support the transition, then step down from both management and the board. Tripadvisor said its board is working with an executive search firm to identify a successor.
Noonan said he would resign to pursue another opportunity and will remain chief financial officer through Dec. 31. Kristen Dalton, the company’s chief strategy and operations officer, is scheduled to become interim CFO on Jan. 1.
The company described the departures as separate decisions. It did not name a permanent replacement for either executive in Thursday’s announcement.
Reuters reported that Tripadvisor shares fell 17% to $8.49 in premarket trading after the leadership changes were disclosed. Premarket prices can change before the regular U.S. trading session and do not establish the stock’s closing value.
Goldberg joined Tripadvisor’s board and became CEO in July 2022. During his tenure, the company sought to strengthen its core travel-guidance business and expand Viator, its marketplace for tours and activities.
Dalton has worked at Tripadvisor since 2019 and currently oversees strategy and operations. Her appointment is explicitly interim while the company determines its longer-term finance leadership.
Tripadvisor’s board thanked Goldberg and Noonan for their service and said both would assist with their respective transitions. The announcement did not say that the departures resulted from a disagreement over the company’s operations, policies or financial reporting.
The leadership changes come as Tripadvisor continues to compete across travel planning, hotel discovery and experiences. The timing gives the company several weeks to prepare for Noonan’s departure and more than three months for the CEO handoff.
