By Will Langan | 24X7 News Updated October 20, 2026 PARK CITY, Kansas — President Donald Trump put Adam Hamilton’s handling of molestation reports before a Kansas rally audience Monday, saying the Democratic Senate candidate protected an abuser and allowed him to return as a camp counselor. Speaking October 19 at Heartland Credit Union Arena near Wichita while campaigning for Republican Sen. Roger Marshall, Trump challenged Hamilton’s judgment over Church of the Resurrection’s response to reports involving volunteer Scott Preston Moore. “Adam Hamilton shielded a child sexual predator at his church,” Trump said. He then said that Hamilton allowed Moore to return despite knowing he was an abuser. The remarks brought presidential attention to an important timeline documented in court testimony: • Boys reported being molested at camp in 2005. • Church investigators did an investigation but did not notify law enforcement. • Moore remained eligible to serve as a camp counselor and returned in 2006. • Parents were not told about the reported abuse in 2005. • Moore molested more boys in 2006. • The church finally called law enforcement and restricted his service. Earlier Monday, Hamilton acknowledged that the second-year participation should never have happened. “They should have never been there. These were mistakes that were made,” he said in a televised interview. Hamilton disputed the account presented in Republican advertising, saying there was uncertainty about the initial allegations and the perpetrator’s identity. He also claimed he later helped get Moore prosecuted and jailed. Court transcripts show Hamilton did not testify at the trial. He has denied a cover-up. 24X7 News reported last week that sources close to the investigation said Hamilton took responsibility for making the decision to send Moore back to a youth camp in 2006. The church’s investigators had not contacted law enforcement after the initial allegations in 2005, and Moore remained eligible to serve as a camp counselor. The sources’ identities are being withheld. 24X7 News sent requests for comment to Hamilton’s campaign on October 15, seeking Hamilton’s response to the sources’ account. We also sought comment last week from Church of the Resurrection. Neither has responded to those requests as of this update. Hamilton’s campaign rejected the rally attacks as false. Spokesperson Tyson Brody said Republicans were trying to rescue Marshall’s campaign and distract voters from fuel costs, healthcare access and government corruption. The dispute now reaches beyond campaign messaging to the decisions made after the first reports. In 2005, teenage campers reported nighttime intrusions into their sleeping quarters and reported inappropriate touching at a church youth retreat in Linn County. Church investigator Nancy Brown, who conducted the investigation with church employee Randy Meyer, testified that they did not contact police or report it to the state’s child-protection agency. “No, we did not contact the police,” Brown said. The church treated the investigation as inconclusive. Brown confirmed that Moore remained permitted to serve as a camp counselor and that his certification was not withdrawn after the 2005 investigation. Moore returned as a cabin leader in 2006. Renewed reports of molestation described nighttime room entries and inappropriate touching. A prosecution filing describes church investigator Bob Whisman investigating those reports and then contacting the Linn County Sheriff’s Office. A sheriff’s investigator testified that the church supplied information concerning both years. Brown testified that Moore’s certification was withdrawn following the renewed allegations, restricting work with children, youth and vulnerable adults through the wider church conference. People close to the investigation described full cooperation at that later stage, including delivery of material from the earlier investigation. The sheriff’s investigator’s testimony independently confirms that information concerning both years was supplied. That cooperation followed Moore’s return to another retreat and more reports of molestation. Hamilton’s public acknowledgment that Moore should never have participated the second year leaves Hamilton to explain why he approved him to go back a second year. Sources close to the investigation say Hamilton knew about the reports in 2005 and met with parents and youth at the church the following morning. They say he approved Moore’s return in 2006 and later accepted responsibility for that decision. Their account highlights a central issue: Hamilton has stopped short of publicly acknowledging that he personally approved Moore’s return, while the sources say he has accepted responsibility for making that specific decision. Hamilton and Marshall are scheduled to debate Wednesday, October 21, from 7 to 8 p.m. Central, ahead of the November 3 election. Sources and records: 1.
