Uber reported third-quarter revenue of $14.8 billion, up 10% from a year earlier, as trips and gross bookings continued to grow across its platform.

Gross bookings increased 20% to $59.8 billion for the quarter ended Sept. 30. The company recorded 4.1 billion trips, 16% more than a year earlier, while monthly active platform consumers rose 14% to 215 million.

Mobility gross bookings increased 18% to $29.5 billion. Delivery bookings rose 22% to $28.5 billion, and Freight bookings increased 35% to $1.8 billion. Delivery revenue grew 23%, while Mobility revenue declined 2%; Uber said changes to its business model reduced total reported revenue growth by eight percentage points.

Income from operations increased 30% to $1.4 billion. Net income attributable to Uber was $512 million, or 25 cents a diluted share. The year-earlier quarter included a large tax valuation benefit and gains from equity investments, making the headline net-income comparison less useful for measuring the underlying business.

Uber reported $3.0 billion in adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, up 31%. Its non-GAAP operating income increased 38% to $2.3 billion. Those company-defined measures exclude specified items and are not substitutes for results under generally accepted accounting principles.

Operating cash flow reached $2.6 billion, and company-defined free cash flow was $2.5 billion.

For the fourth quarter, Uber projected gross bookings of $63.25 billion to $65.25 billion, representing constant-currency growth of 18% to 22%. It forecast non-GAAP earnings of 95 cents to 99 cents a share. Those figures are company estimates rather than completed results.

Uber also said it expects about 700 fully driverless vehicles to be available through its platform by year-end and more than 2,000 in 2027. The deployment targets are forward-looking and remain subject to execution, regulatory and market risks.
