Filmmaker Barry Sonnenfeld will host Children's Institute's 120th-anniversary Cape & Gown Gala on November 8 in Beverly Hills, the nonprofit announced October 30.
The organization said Jamie Lee Curtis will receive its inaugural Michele & Rob Reiner Champion for Change Award, with Jake Reiner presenting. The announced program also includes a John Mayer performance and an appearance by Chelsea Handler.
Sonnenfeld's directing credits include The Addams Family, Get Shorty and the first three Men in Black films. He also worked as cinematographer on Rob Reiner's When Harry Met Sally and Misery.
Children's Institute said proceeds will support its early-childhood education, mental-health and whole-family services. Founded in 1906, the Los Angeles organization says it serves approximately 30,000 children and families each year.
The announcement concerns a future event and an expected lineup, rather than a ceremony that has already taken place.
The organization described the gala as closed to the press. It said photography and video from the evening would be made available to media by request beginning November 9. That timetable does not mean event photographs already exist.
