Launch Catch-Up — Exhibition Announced October 22, 2026
Bishop Museum and World Wide Walls will present UNDER/GROUND, an exhibition examining street art and hip-hop culture, beginning November 21 in Honolulu.
The museum’s October 22 announcement describes a full-scale subway-station installation with a life-sized subway car, surrounded by recreated neighborhood spaces. Passageways will connect the station to galleries containing murals, sculptures and other artworks.
World Wide Walls co-directors Jasper and Amy Wong developed the exhibition with Bishop Museum exhibit designer DeAnne Kennedy. The program explores relationships between street culture and museums, including how institutions and communities assign artistic value.
Participating mural artists include 123KLAN, Askew One, Caratoes, INSA, Simone Legno, Edwin Ushiro and other local and international artists. Sculptural works will include contributions from Tristan Eaton and OG Slick.
The exhibition also incorporates The Get Down, curated by Thinkspace Projects, and WET PAINT, a project repurposing subway signs as artworks. The November opening remains upcoming; the October announcement is the development covered here.
