Brighton & Hove Albion moved into second place in England’s Premier League with a 2–0 home victory over Brentford on Sunday, November 8.
Diego Gómez put Brighton ahead in the 15th minute at the Amex Stadium. Pascal Groß then converted a penalty before halftime, giving the hosts a two-goal advantage they retained through the second half.
Brentford played much of the match with 10 men after striker Igor Thiago was sent off following a video review. The dismissal came between Brighton’s two goals.
The result takes Brighton to 22 points from 10 matches, five behind defending champion Arsenal. Brighton overtook Manchester City to become Arsenal’s closest challenger going into the November international break.
For Fabian Hürzeler’s team, the win continues an unusually strong opening to the season. Brighton has won seven of its first 10 league matches, and Sunday’s result extends that early challenge near the top of the table.
Both goals arrived before the interval, leaving Brentford to pursue the game while a player short. Brighton preserved its clean sheet and secured all three points.
