Launch Catch-Up — Decisions Taken October 23, 2026

The California Arts Council approved nearly $10 million in additional support for arts organizations at its October 23 meeting in Merced, the agency announced October 26.

The allocation includes about $5.76 million for 496 additional General Operating Support applicants and $4.215 million for 56 State-Local Partners. The latter covers the second year of a two-year grant period.

The funding follows a September budget amendment providing a one-time $10 million appropriation for general operating grants and $4 million for cultural districts.

The council also approved a Cultural District Activation Grant Program and another round of district designations.

In a separate decision, it approved including a Native American Artist grant program among programs opening in fiscal 2027–28. That program’s eligibility requirements, award sizes and application schedule remain under development.

The decisions concern funding allocations and program development. They do not mean that every proposed program is already accepting applications or that all appropriated money has been paid out.
