Launch Catch-Up — Plan Announced October 26, 2026

Emory University plans to invest up to $15 million over two years to support faculty research and strengthen its research infrastructure, the university announced October 26.

The provost’s office will provide $11 million, with Emory Research contributing up to $4 million. University leaders said discussions about interrupted grants, stalled projects and rising publication costs helped shape the plan.

Four areas will receive support. A new seed program, ALIGN, will help faculty pursue different lines of inquiry, with priority for researchers affected by funding changes. A competitive bridge program will help sustain teams whose external support has ended or been interrupted.

The other areas cover publication expenses, mainly open-access fees, and gaps in benefits for postdoctoral researchers holding individual fellowships or training-grant appointments.

Emory said bridge-funding guidelines, eligibility rules and applications would follow later in the fall. The announcement describes a funding commitment and planned programs, rather than completed research or individual grant awards.
