Poland has been selected to host a European service center for PAC-3 missiles used in Patriot air-defense systems, Deputy Defense Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka announced on October 27.

The confirmation followed Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s earlier statement that negotiations were nearing completion. Defence24’s updated report distinguishes that earlier expectation from the deputy minister’s subsequent announcement of Poland’s selection.

The project would place servicing capacity for U.S.-made interceptors in Europe. It is a maintenance-center plan, separate from proposals to manufacture new Patriot missiles, and does not mean the facility is already operating.

Sobkowiak-Czarnecka later told reporters that the investment would total approximately 1 billion zlotys and take about a year to become operational, Reuters reported. Those figures remain an official estimate rather than a completed construction timetable.

The announcement adds a European maintenance location for equipment central to U.S. defense cooperation with allies. Neither source establishes that the new center has begun servicing missiles or provides a firm opening date.
