Enzo Le Fée’s first-half penalty gave Sunderland a 1–0 victory over Chelsea at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland, England, on Sunday, November 8.

The result lifted Sunderland off the bottom of the Premier League and into 18th place. Chelsea slipped to fifth, with Liverpool moving above it into fourth.

Brian Brobbey won the penalty after a challenge involving Chelsea defender Levi Colwill. Le Fée converted to give the home side a lead it carried into halftime and protected for the remainder of the match.

Brobbey had already threatened Chelsea’s goal before the breakthrough, missing early opportunities as Sunderland pressed for an opening.

Chelsea had more possession after the interval but could not find an equalizer. Changes from manager Xabi Alonso failed to alter the score, leaving the visitors without a goal at the final whistle.

For Sunderland, the victory was its first league win since August and its second of the season. The three points improve its position in the relegation fight before the international break.
