Art collective teamLab announced October 29 that it plans to open its first permanent U.S. museum at Anaheim’s OCVIBE development in 2030.
The purpose-built museum will occupy approximately 110,000 square feet, according to the announcement. Architecture firm smith-clementi will design the building, with LPA serving as architect of record and working with teamLab on exhibitions.
The planned galleries will house immersive artworks that respond to visitors’ presence. The largely windowless interior requirements also shape the exterior design, which the architects describe as a textured surface that changes appearance with light and viewpoint.
The museum is part of a larger sports, entertainment and arts district surrounding Honda Center. OCVIBE’s first phase is scheduled to begin welcoming visitors in March 2027 with a 5,000-person concert hall, followed by a market hall and other public spaces.
The museum’s 2030 target is separate from that earlier district opening. Thursday’s announcement establishes a planned permanent venue, rather than a museum currently accepting visitors.
TeamLab is an interdisciplinary collective founded in 2001, combining artists with programmers, engineers, mathematicians and architects.
