President Donald Trump has canceled a rally scheduled for October 31 at Salina’s airport in Kansas, state Republican officials and airport authorities confirmed October 29.
The in-person event was intended to support Republican candidates ahead of the midterm elections, including Sen. Roger Marshall’s reelection campaign against Democrat Adam Hamilton.
WIBW reported that Kansas Republican Party Chairperson Danedri Herbert confirmed the cancellation. Airport authorities cited scheduling conflicts.
White House officials separately told Scripps News that strong demand for Trump appearances prompted a shift toward telephone rallies to reach more voters.
Kansas GOP executive director Rob Fillion told WIBW that Trump would conduct several telephone town halls instead of Saturday visits across the country. The reports establish the schedule change; they do not establish that it reflects a particular polling result or a withdrawal of support for a candidate.
Trump previously campaigned for Marshall at an October 19 event in Park City, near Wichita. The canceled Salina appearance had been scheduled for noon Saturday.
